For our first night in Dublin, we went to bed around 8 pm, but then we all woke up at midnight and struggled to sleep until we had to get up at 4 am to get to the airport for our flight to Zurich. The airport was full of travelers and we waited in long lines but luckily made it to our gate with only about 5 minutes to spare! After an easy flight to Zurich we got a train to Appenzell. Just as our train arrived it started pouring rain, but we managed to get a taxi to our rental apartment.
Appenzell is a beautiful and quaint Swiss town. We loved our cute apartment and exploring the town. We went for a family jog around town to get the lay of the land and to help get our internal clocks set to Euro time.
Steve, Daniella, Adrian, and Aaron arrived at the nearby campground and came over for dinner at our apartment that night. The next day we met up for an amazing hike in the alps to the Aescher hut built right into the side of a cliff. We saw lots of paragliders sailing around the mountain skies while we hiked, and a few friendly cows with bells around their necks. There were several huts along the way where you could buy fresh milk and cheese from the cows grazing the mountainside.
For our last night in Appenzell we had dinner at the campground and learned to play the ‘Wizard’ card game with a beautiful sunset in the background. The next morning Steve and Daniella drove us to our next stop in Munich where we will meet up with Mike, Chase, and Cohen, and get our camper vans.
